GOLF OUTING - July 16, 2018
This year's Golf Outing fundraiser was at The Links of Whitmore on Monday, July 16th. It was a huge success! We brought in more money than last year, as our hole sponsors were nearly doubled! The big news of the day, is Jerry Baecke got a hole in one, and won a 2 year lease on a Jeep Cherokee from Dan Hall’s Pinckney Jeep, Dodge Ram Chevrolet. This was the very first time ever in the 21 years of doing this golf event anyone has ever won a car! We are so blessed and grateful to our volunteers, staff and board members for their support and hard work. Special thanks to coordinators Lynn Kneisel, Jerry Severin and Julie Haggard for a tremendous amount of work towards making the event a huge success. For over 30 years Active Faith has been serving the area, and in doing so we continue to provide long term and temporary assistance to those who have fallen on difficult times in hopes of returning them to the independent pursuit of their life's goals.
BOY SCOUT FOOD DRIVE - November 10, 2018
In November we are looking forward to the annual food drive coordinated by the Boy Scouts With the extra food Active Faith will be able to feed approximately 120 families. Thank you to the Scouts for their hard work and for the communities donations. Additional donations can be made at local grocery stores.
CHRISTMAS CARD APPEAL - December 2018
The RED envelope is our symbol of Christmas donations to Active Faith. Each year several volunteers hand address and send these Christmas colored reminders to your homes in the hope you can help our efforts to continue another year. We thank you and want you to know it makes a huge difference. Your donations are 1/3 of our food buying budget each year.
STRIKE OUT HUNGER - March 2018
The March 4th Strike Out Hunger fundraiser was a GREAT success. A whopping $5,084.15 was raised during this event. Thank you to all the family members and their friends that registered and participated in this year’s Strike-Out-Hunger event at the Pinz Bowling center in South Lyon, Michigan. All proceeds from this event went to support Active Faith, our local community food pantry. The cost per lane was $100 (up to 5 people) and included a large pizza, soft drink, bowling shoes, and as many games as you and your teammates could play between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. A prize was given for the “best dressed team”.
A 50/50 drawing and a silent auction with several beautiful gift baskets were donated by many generous business owners and individuals from South Lyon and the surrounding community.
If you missed the event this year, make sure you sign up for Strike Out Hunger in 2019!
POSTAL FOOD DRIVE - May 12, 2018
During the annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger®Food Drive, on May 12, 2018, community members placed non perishable food items at their mailbox for pick up by local postal carriers. Active Faith Community Services received 9,489 pounds of donated food as a result of this recent Postal Service Food Drive. The South Lyon and New Hudson communities were extremely generous in donating this food. Many families will benefit from our fully stocked shelves and our ability to offer them assistance in their time of need. We are pleased to be able to continue to serve the South Lyon school district in such a blessed way.
Many thanks go to the Postal Service workers who participated in the food drive and to the area’s residents who donated to this national hunger fighting effort. This event is like a hug from our community to our neighbors in need.
